Alex I.

Private tutor in Long Beach, CA

Education

I graduated from California State University Long Beach in 2016 with a double major in Psychology and Human Development with a focus on autism. I was often on Dean's Lists (3.5+ GPA) and President's Lists (3.7+ GPA). I received the academic distinction of a membership in Psi Chi Psychological Association. I worked in psychological research laboratories that focused on special needs from 2013-2017. I also wrote a number of research papers about special needs in the scientific community. I currently give talks as a guest speaker at universities about the autism and special needs community. I enjoyed helping and tutoring my fellow classmates.

Experience

I have been working in the special needs community for ten years, and have been a paid special needs tutor for the last three years. I have been tutoring in varying capacities for more than five years. I tutor students in both SAT and ACT prep. My own SAT score in 2012 was 2100/2400 (approximately 1480 using today's metrics out of 1600) and my ACT score was 32/36. I'm comfortable teaching at AP levels for most subjects I offer. I can teach students at any class level how to write essays quickly and naturally. School has always come rather naturally to me, and I love helping make it easier for others. I offer tutoring in the Long Beach area to high schoolers with special needs. High schoolers have so many aspects of their lives to balance, and there’s even more things to manage when they have special needs. It’s easy for their academics fall to the wayside, and I’ve made it my mission to help them get their diploma. Students sometimes need the extra help to get through their hard classes, and that’s why I’m here.

Hobbies

Tutoring is my main interest. I really love taking concepts and moving them around so they can be understood by others. This is why I love my job so much. I myself have a deep love of learning. I enjoy watching documentaries and educational videos on the Internet. I love topics like history, natural sciences, and linguistics. For fun I enjoy playing video games like the Legend of Zelda, Pokemon, Final Fantasy, and Mario. I'm familiar with most video games, so even if don't play the game your child does, I can talk about their games with no issue. Having someone who can understand and relate to their interests makes teenagers enjoy sessions much more, and they look forward to returning much more often. Furthermore, since I spend time on the Internet, I'll know most of the memes they talk about. I love cooking and good food. I always love a chance to try new things. It's a happy source of wholesome fun. I like dogs. I like long walks. I really like long walks with dogs!
