Education
-Graduated Cum Laude from University of California, Irvine in June 2014 with a B.A. in Comparative Literature, emphasizing in Critical Theory. I also successfully completed an Honors Thesis as part of the Humanities Honors Program. -As Comparative Literature is a lesser-known field to those outside of the School of Humanities, it is a broad field that addresses the human condition through philosophy, political theory/criticism, literature, and art. While it may sound as if Comparative Literature students excel at pulling two novels of different nationalities down from the shelf to analyze them side-by-side, it is a highly interdisciplinary field that endeavors to understand the relationship of cultures and its social implications in the contemporary age. -Aside from my expertise in writing, I am also an avid classical piano player having started private lessons at the age of 4. I completed all levels of Certificate of Merit in 2010.
Experience
-Tutored high school students (10th grade) in American History -Served as Editor-in-Chief for an on-campus humanities magazine for 2 years. -Previous experience in writing and editing articles for the magazine. -Selected and granted funding to be a Research Fellow as part of the University Research Opportunity Program in 2014. -As a Comparative Literature student, most courses that I have completed during college were writing-intensive and I enjoyed doing it! We often had to edit and review the works of colleagues as well, so that provided me with a lot of insight in terms of different writing styles and approaches to writing successfully. -I was selected to speak and present a paper at the Critical Theory Conference in 2012, hosted by UC Irvine's School of Humanities. The paper topic regarded the politics of social media. -Was accepted into a select group of students with diverse majors that constituted the Humanities Honors Program. The two-year program consisted of seminars during the first year and the second year entirely dedicated to writing and editing an Honors Thesis. -Native speaker of Mandarin and Taiwanese; fluent in French
